Farmer's Lung - Supplemental Activity 2
Guest Speaker
Invite
a member of the medical field to speak to the class on Farmer's
Lung and occupational lung diseases. Have the person provide
statistics from the local area, and welcome them to bring
any pamphlets, photos, x-rays, or other literature as well
as protective equipment. Discuss the need for protective equipment
and prevention of the disease. Allow the health care provider
to present information, and then encourage discussion or questions
from the students.
Discussion questions:
- Have you ever known anyone who had the disease?
- How is the disease treated?
- What lifestyle changes occur for those with the disease?
- What are the average medical costs to those with the disease and needing treatment?
- What other costs do people with occupational lung disease have?
- How can you prevent Farmer's Lung?
- What personal protective equipment is adequate for prevention of the disease?
